Our online traceroute is a tool that anyone can use to trace the network path from our server to any other server on the Internet. The method of traceroute used is based on Ping (icmp) packets that are sent to each hop in the route. The results can be used to find problems in the network, but also to find related organizations and interesting paths as the packets traverse the globe.
Traceroute, Tracepath, Tracert, tcptraceroute and mtr are all related tools that perform similiar functions but have some differences, some tools will use UDP packets, others TCP and the most common is ICMP. If you run windows you will have access to Tracert, while a Linux user will have a range of possibilities. Even nmap has a traceroute function, see nmap in action at HackerTarget.com
